Expressing Appreciation Through Thank You Cards

Thank you cards are one of our favorite items to create and share with our customers because we know it means they’re building connections and appreciating the loved ones in their lives. Oftentimes big events like baby showers, weddings, graduation celebrations, or birthday parties are bookended with invitations and thank you cards to express gratitude for the attendance (and gifts) of their friends and family.

But we also know that it can be tricky to find the right words to sincerely express appreciation for someone’s thoughtful gifts and the time they spent celebrating your milestones. Luckily, we’ve come up with the perfect formula to help you say thank you in a way that makes your loved ones feel seen and adequately appreciated.

Start with a callout of their gift (or presence).

We like to recommend opening with this because it gets it out of the way and helps you get right to the point. They’ll know that you appreciate the gift and it’s thoughtful to acknowledge the item(s) that they picked out specifically for you. Here’s some examples:

  1. (Cash) Thank you so much for the generous investment in our honeymoon fund.
  2. I can’t thank you enough for the signed copy of my favorite book.
  3. Baby is already so appreciative of the adorable outfits you got for her.
  4. Thank you so much for making the drive out to celebrate my graduation with me.

Next, let them know why you appreciate their gift.

In doing so, you show them just how much you benefit from their gifts, which makes their contributions and friendship feel valued. We’ll continue building on the sentiments above:

  1. (Cash) We can’t wait to put it towards a delicious dinner on the beach and reflect on all the fun we had during our wedding weekend.
  2. It means the world that you pay attention and support my interests and passions. I can’t wait to read it in the sun this weekend.
  3. She’s going to be the most stylish kid on the block and we can’t wait to tell her about her aunt who keeps her looking so great.
  4. It means so much to me that you’ve always made the effort to show up and support me during all of my milestones. I’m lucky to have you in my corner!

Share a sweet sentiment or memory.

This helps the ‘thank you’ feel even more tangible and gives you space to share genuine sentiments about your relationship. Here are a few examples:

  1. We are so lucky to have you in our lives, especially because your moves on the dance floor also kept the party rocking. Can’t wait to show you all of the incredible photos the photographer captured of your energy.
  2. You remind me of the main character in the book because your kindness never ceases to blow me away. I’m lucky to have a friend like you!
  3. Your sense of fashion and style has always been something to envy, and I'm so glad our daughter will have someone like you in her life!
  4. Your support has been a constant reminder that I can do great things, especially throughout high school. I appreciate how much you’ve always believed in me.

Sign off with another thank you and any additional thoughts.

Here’s your chance to add anything else you want to express or wrap it up with another short, sweet thank you. Here’s what we recommend:

  1. Thanks again for being you. We love you!
  2. Thanks for your unwavering friendship and thoughtfulness - you’re the best!
  3. Thanks for being the world’s best aunt - we’re lucky to have you.
  4. Thanks for inspiring me to be me.

Lastly, don’t forget to add your signature and you’re good to go!

Suggested time frame to send cards.

It’s important to be prompt with thank-you cards out of respect for their attendance and gifts.

We recommend 4 weeks or less for big events like weddings, and 2 weeks or less for smaller events like birthday parties, graduations, and baby showers.
